The earliest life on Earth started over three billion years ago. To survive in most ecosystems, life started to adapt to challenges and thrive in a wide range of conditions. In the Axolotl salamander we found an animal that can completely repair and regenerate its central nervous system as well as its vital organs. It was logical to use this as a starting point. Unlocking these mechanisms led us to the development of regenerative implants and directly reprogrammed precursor cells. These technologies in combination allow for regeneration of the brain and spinal cord.
In 2014 our technology was awarded a grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) which allowed us to collaborate with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) within the fields of neural stem cells, neuroscience and neurosurgery for the evaluation of our directly reprogrammed neural precursor cells. The grant was ranked #1 nationwide.
